ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS + NOTES CONCERNING SHIPPING FEES:
NEW! Starting November 1st, 2007, all prices quoted on this site are in Canadian dollars only, for more simplicity (the currency fluctuations called for constant adjustments on our part). When you order, we will use the converter located at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ (Universal Currency Converter – a tool that is widely used), to give you the total in your preferred currency.
Most mail order selling services show standardized shipping rates on their site, per item, for every area of the world. At .Angle.Rec./Mondes Elliptiques, we prefer doing things on a ‘case by case’ basis; for example, the price for sending one cd may vary considerably, based on whether it is a 3’’ cd (mini-cd) or a standard cd, a cd with oversized sleeve or in a metalbox etc etc. According to us, the standardization of rates is detrimental sometimes to the label/distro, sometimes to the buyer. This is why we proceed as follows:
1. You send us an email HERE specifying your complete address.
2. We acknowledge receipt of your order and we quote you the total of
your purchase.
3. You send us your payment and upon receipt, we send you what you ordered. Payments
can be made via Paypal, International Money Order (IMO) or cash (at your own risk).
Note: for payments sent through PAYPAL, we add a supplement representing 4% of the total value of the order. People from the Montreal area: remember that it is obviously always better to buy your records ‘’from hand to hand’’!

-01ek-
Suicide Prevention CD
Oral
Alexander Wilson (01ek) is an interdisciplinary artist, musician, theatre director, and theorist based in Montreal, Canada. He composes electro-acoustic music, produces experimental videos, interactive media and architectural installations, and directs physical theatrical events in immersive environments. His artistic propositions invariably materialize philosophical interrogations into the structure of meaning, the potential for human agency, and the metaphysics of the body, space and time. Alexander is half of the experimental music duo, Élan d'Amérique, with Alexandre St-Onge. Somewhere between psychedelia, techno, electroacoustics, and post-rock, Suicide Prevention is the product of a 14 year old pact of music or death. Like a dual with the past, the record was motivated by an ineffable will to live. It is made up of a series of propositions for reasons to act. Though musically eclectic, the album meticulously weaves a coherent symbolic gesture. Filled with rich textures, warm and noisy acoustic recordin gs, complex synthetic algorithms, and haunting nostalgic melodies, this album addresses the organic sensibility of the listener.

-15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO-
Under A Morphine Sky CD
Force Of Nature
This imaginative and innovative album finally sees the light of day and, furthermore, on an excellent label. It’s already been 4 or 5 years since it was composed and recorded but it’s as if it happened last week, in the sense that it defies any trend or fashion. Of course, many elements will sound familiar to fans of noise or experimental music but 15 Degrees Below Zero injects numerous new ideas into those genres and builds ‘unlikely’ amalgams. The opening track starts with a note influenced by power-electronics or japanoise, and soon comes a slow rhythm and then surprise: a guitar evoking a spaghetti western confuses the issue. A western with memorable melodies, which become foggier on the second track, but that are always backed by a subtly percussive bruitism. The third track offers a side that is more epic in nature and almost martial at times. Following that, sounds alternate between atmospheric music and structured noise. In the final segment, the guitar comes back, at the forefront,
with quiet but slightly disturbing psychedelic ambiences. A project that is hard to pigeonhole – and it is much to its credit – but that presents a strong and evocative album.

-2KILOS &MORE-
8floors Lower CD
Jeans Records
What a record…it seems so ‘alien’ at start, because it so belongs to a league of its own, but it is at the same time so close to us, so close to our nature. It’s as if this music always was embedded in our unconscious collective, and that it only took someone to give it a palpable form…it took the intervention of Hugues Villette and Séverine Krouch!. With their project 2KILOS &MORE, they offer us a production that is both moving and rich and which shows a compelling mastery and maturity. It’s their first full-length cd, prefigured by the 9.21 mini album on the TAALEM label (see below). Villette and Krouch are not afraid to confuse the issue; their music has an iconoclast feel, in that it blends various styles , that is indus, experimental, post-rock, indietronica, shoegaze…but the whole is always well-balanced, well-weighted, evolutionary, thoughtful. One feels the sincerity behind their intent, their proposition; they do exactly what they feel like doing, and the end result speaks for itself. An album that is not always ‘easy’, reptilian, but also full of lyricism, poetry and musicality. To be discovered urgently!
The two members of the project already had some accomplishments under their belts before starting 2KILOS. They contributed to various musical projects (MY OWN, OSAKA BONDAGE, 1 KILO OF BLACK BONDAGE, BA[J]KA...); they remixed a track for TRISOMIE 21 (under their old KILOS alias); they composed a soundtrack for a short film...The album is produced by NORSCQ (VON MAGNET, MIMETIC, THE GRIEF, COLDER...)

2KILOS &MORE is a French duo who mixes electronics and real instruments (guitar, melodica) creating evolutive & complex tracks full of detailed sounds. After many live gigs (with RAPOON, HYBRIDS and BAD SECTOR at the third THÉRAPIE AUDITIVE festival in Paris in May 2006 and opening for bands like COLDER or TRISOMIE 21 earlier), this 3", carefully mastered by NORSCQ (THE GRIEF, THE ATLAS PROJECT, VON MAGNET) is their very first disc, a foretaste to their forthcoming album... -99 MG / L. PERNICE-
Ligne latérale CD
Fario
99 mg is another name for Amaury Cambuzat of the French project Ulan Bator (Michael Gira produced one of their latest cds). With 99 mg, Cambuzat explores intimate atmospheres, with different tactics from one track to another, be it organ sounds, guitar-based drones droning or unedited sound loops. This is aerial and slightly discordant synth-orchestrated stuff that has a soundtrackish feel to it, with guitar-driven loops. Laurent Pernice is a French musician/composer who released music on the Permis de Construire, PDCD and Odd Size labels, among others. He was a member of NOX and has played with German producers C-Schulz and Marcus Schmickler. Here he delivers his own brand of minimal tech and even ventures into light breakbeat with lots of ghostly undertones, found noises and piano. Think psych neoclassical stuff with a rhythm…comparisons have even been made with the digital dub approach of Sandoz, the minimalism of Plastikman or the geometric aesthetics of some people from the Warp roster of artists.
"Ligne Latérale" itself, the track written by Pernice and Cambuzat together, is considered a highlight of the cd, with all its experimentation on the guitar, its strange subdued rhythm and its psychotropic atmosphere. Now a hard to find gem.

-AGNIVOLOK-
Sculptor CD
The Eastern Front
Here is a much-awaited re-release of a record published in vinyl format a few years ago on StateArt. With their very avant-gardist approach towards neo-folk music, Vera Agnivolok, Igor Krutogolov (Kruzenshtern & Parohod) and Vadim Gusis (Chaos As Shelter) took fans and critics of the genre totally by surprise when they released Sculptor. The fact is that Agnivolok injects a healthy dose of experimentation into the genre and make it travel through original dimensions. Influences from folk music of Eastern Europe are obvious, but they are complemented with slow drifts that are not unlike free-jazz (mainly on the last track), elements of musique concrète, organic and dark synthetic/electroacoustic layers, bits of industrial/recursive music, all topped with Vera Agnivolok’s distinctive voice, on most tracks. Even fans of the radical / experimental aspect found on various releases from the Constellation label will be pleased. Unique, unclassifiable, timeless…and gorgeous packaging!

-AGNIVOLOK-
Cherries CD
The Eastern Front
Each of the (too rare) releases by this Israeli project always comes up like a breath of fresh air in the neo-folk and electro-acoustic universes. There indeed is a traditional and/or solemn side to their music but at the same time, the blend of folk influences and sound experimentations executed by Agnivolok is rather twisted! Besides, according to the sleeve info, the various members of the group play instruments that are not very orthodox …Therefore, the magic brought by the famed Sculptor cd (see above in this catalogue) is perpetuated here. Those who liked Sculptor will most assuredly like Cherries as well. This 2nd offering, however, seems slightly more composed or focussed than Sculptor. Any neo-folk enthusiast willing to discover a project that proposes a genuine, intense and evocative music must absolutely give Agnivolok a listen. A surrealistic approach towards folk music. Nothing but good stuff on this 2nd opus!

-AIDAN BAKER & THISQUIETARMY-
A Picture Of A Picture CD
Killer Pimp
AIDAN BAKER is a musician and writer from Toronto, Canada. Classically trained in flute, he is self-taught on guitar, drums, and various other instruments. AIDAN BAKER has released numerous records on independent labels from around the world and is also the author of three books of poetry. As a solo artist, AIDAN BAKER explores the deconstructive sonic possibilities of the electric guitar as a primary sound source, creating music that ranges from experimental/ambient to post-rock to contemporary classical. In addition to his solo work, AIDAN BAKER performs with the trios ARC and WHISPER ROOM and the duo NADJA.
ERIC QUACH is a Montreal-based guitarist and sound engineer who is also a founding member of the instrumental rock band DESTROYALLDREAMERS. As THISQUIETARMY, a one-man solo drone/ambient project, ERIC QUACH composes visual guitar-based soundscapes and experimental music that goes beyond the typical song structure. THISQUIETARMY performs live regularly throughout Canada and the USA, and has played with ULRICH SCHNAUSS, OLAFUR ARNALDS, TIM HECKER, TROUM, NADJA & CASPIAN just to name a few.
Their first studio collaboration was the ORANGE EP which came out as a limited edition of 200 orange CDRs on THISQUIETARMY. The tracks were recorded separately from their home, sent back and forth via postmail for months, and finally mixed and edited by ERIC QUACH.
For their first full-length album, AIDAN BAKER & ERIC QUACH have decided to do things differently by setting a simple rule beforehand: the record was to be played and recorded live together, adding a very minimal amount of overdubs if not any. The recording session took place in the fall of 2007, in ERIC QUACH’s own home studio TQA-HQ in Montreal. Because of their very busy schedule, it took about a year before the two artists decided to get together to work on these tracks again. This time, AIDAN BAKER finalized the mixes in his home studio, resulting again in four long movements, clocking at around an hour's length. Instead of the overall terror-ambient feel of their first collaboration, the first two tracks actually find both guitarists exploring the brighter side of their spectrum, evoking the hope and the beauty represented in CHRISTY ROMANICK's photographs that were again used for the artwork, in conjunction with ERIC QUACH's sketches.
Perhaps it was just a lovely sunny day when the recording took place. However, the sounds shift around darker tones in the second half…

-ALIO DIE-
The Flight Of Real Image CD
Faria Records
This is the re-release of old MCD (22 minutes) which has been released in 1993 limited edition of 1000 copies and sold out several years ago. FARIA RECORDS is happy to present a full version of this great album, his length is 79 minutes. Classical sound of the maestro is harmoniously combined with his new experiments with a zither, flutes, bells and many others. Old materials were remastering and now sound very well.
Release has five cards with installations of Italian painter Sara Luciani. These artworks are an integral part of the concept of an album.

-ANEMONE TUBE-
Existence CD
Auf Abwegen
Any extreme music fans in the room? (i see hands raising up here and there). Well, kids, you’ll have lots to go crazy over. EXISTENCE is of the stuff menacing and rather merciless albums are made of. This is not non-stop japnoise frenzy from beginning to end; indeed, the Japanese influence can be felt on various tracks, but the album rather proposes various paths, amalgamated one with the other, all in a total nervous fashion: power-electronics, old-school industrial, hardcore noise, drones, subdued deconstructed rhythms …the middle track of the album (its nucleus), EXISTENCE, based on an essentially ambient backbone, deranges, in the same way the more saturated tracks of the disc do. An album that is striking in its intensity. A must for fans of MERZBOW, SOLDNERGEIST or THROBBING GRISTLE etc.

-ANN'SO & SAOULATERRE-
Entre Deux Os CD
Bruits De Fond/L'Ultime Atome
Behind this pseudonym hides one BORIS DOMALAIN, a musician whose imagination is half-way between the Parisian underground – he is an expert in descending into the heart of catacombs, which gives him the ‘’staggers’’, providing the name for his project (‘’saoûl’’ = ‘’drunk’’ and ‘’terre’’ = ‘’ground’’) – and the "Temporary Autonomous Zones", or clandestine techno parties, not too long ago...
A very prolific producer between 1997 and 2003, he releases shitloads of records on many an indie label including his, CAVAGE, in France, but also in England (ULTRA ANNOYING, IRRITANT), Netherlands (STITCHING MIXER) and Italy (IDROSCALO DISCHI). His creation is centered around the use of the sampler, which leads him to heavily recycle everything his ear catches – French songs, ‘’easy listening’’ curiosities, folk – but also to draw, with humor, from the incredible trashcan that today’s mass media are. With hip-hop, techno or electro structures, he constructs records that are always more and more intricate and funny for one track to another, and the rhythms are never afraid to mute during the process or to transgress binary conventions.
Fearlessly accumulating off-kilter experiments, SAOULATERRE then connected, on the occasion of some recordings, with singer and musician ANN’SO, who comes from the world of theater and musical. An album project emerged from those meetings, which L’ULTIME ATOME wished to share while ensuring its production with his then-beginning label, BRUITS DE FOND.
From this collaboration, one then could not expect one of those electro records of uneven quality. In fact, «ENTRE DEUX OS » does not care for conventions and disrupts genres: twisted and haunting texts, flirting with the absurd; singing blowing hot and cold, and ceaselessly drawing transverse lines between BJÖRK and BRIGITTE FONTAINE ; quirky, if not kaput romances, made of haunting loops, jazz fragments, sizzling, humming and distortions… Obviously, « ENTRE DEUX OS » is a marginal record, but a record that can potentially touch any audience …This is certainly why L’ULTIME ATOME and BRUITS DE FOND were so into disseminating it!

-ARC-
The Circle Is Not Round CD
A Silent Place
ARC formed spontaneously in 2000 at a performance at The Ambient Ping, Toronto's long-running live ambient/experimental music series. ARC is a trio of AIDAN BAKER (guitars, flutes, tapeloops), RICHARD BAKER (drumkit, percussion), & CHRISTOPHER KUKIEL (percussion). Their music is a mixture of POPOL VUH’s acoustic compositions, PINK FLOYD’s Ummagumma era, VOICE OF EYE or SUBARACHNOID SPACE..., with dense and organic drones and hypnotic ethnic rhythms. ARC's sound is centred on the melodic loops, textures, & samples provided by heavily-effected guitar & other melodic instruments. This is overlaid with tribal-esque rhythms provided by various percussive instruments; drum kit, djembe, tabla, wood blocks, etc. With this combination, they create a roiling tapestry of both rhythmic & ambient sound, a sound simultaneously prim(ev)al & avant-garde. ARC, regular performers in Toronto and Montreal, have released a number of cdr releases on such labels as Piehead Records, Worthy Records, and their own label Arcolepsy Rec ords. Their release ‘’The Circle Is Not Round’’ with Italy's label A SILENT PLACE (SmallVoices sister label) is their debut CD release. The disc is packaged in a special cardboard digisleeve with varnished images. Limited edition of 800 copies (label info)

-ARKTAU EOS-
Mirrorion CD
Aural Hypnox
Those who browse this catalogue on a regular basis already know that we have a soft spot for the Finnish label AURAL HYPNOX. ARKTAU EOS is the newest project appearing on this label and it is definitely in line with AEOGA, ZOAT-AON and HALO MANASH, already present in the roster. Elastic drones, treated and saturated incantatory vocal presences, natural sounds recorded on the spot, pulsated ritual motifs, black ambiences …the only difference is that at track 5, we get a musical piece that is more ‘structured’, very neofolk-like, with acoustic guitar, voice and everything. However, all the aforementioned elements come on top of the whole, which gives a very psychedelic experience. On some other occasions, similar passages punctuate the infinite vortex which this disc is made of. And then come back in force the subterranean and cavernous sound drifts, gongs, metallic sounds, obscure sound frescos in counterpoint …Track 7 presents a percussive structure that harkens back to the good old days of ‘death-ambient’. This is total journey. Each piece bears a richness of all instants. If such music did not exist, you’d have to invent it. Strongly recommended to all fans of the hallucinated side of dark ambient.

-ARTEMIS-
Asphodel CD
Ekishnugal Records
Melancholic and romantic neo-classical compositions, lush orchestrations painted with ethereal, enchanting voices by LOUISA JOHN KROL haunting poetries, mediaeval melodies, charismatic symphonies reflecting desperation and emptiness, dreams of beauty and sadness. With influences ranging from ancient chants, romanticism and classical chamber music to OPHELIA'S DREAM, DVKE, DARGAARD & AUTUMN TEARS. (EKISHNUGAL RECORDS)
This album, which has a strong neoclassical feel, also gives its listeners a more-than-fair share of ethereal, aerial, delicate and well-thought sound elements, instead of flamboyant and bombastic frescos. The interventions by LOUISE JOHN KROL are particularly shimmering and inviting in this production. Also to be recommended to fans of IN THE NURSERY. Introspective, addictive, buy!

-AUN-
Mule CD
Oral
AUN is Martin Dumais, who has been one of the figureheads of the Montreal electronic scene since its genesis. He is a key contributor to the development of electronic music in Montreal and its distribution internationally, while also working as a music producer for television and art exhibitions. His Hautec label produced most of the first releases of early leaders in the current local scene: Akufen (with whom he recorded the 1996 album Juicebox), Deadbeat, Champion... The AUN project is a return to his first love: deep, melodic lush drones and sometimes harsh angular electro-ambient textures. While in its own personal space, AUN's mule album sits at the side of the tonal work of Phill Niblock, with an imbedded and stark penchant for the early industrialists and echoes experimental avant-guitar artists, juxtaposed to melodic timbres, chiming beauty and desolation uncommon of most drone and noise recordings. This album is produced with both digital and analog hardware, guitar and acoustic recordings; this is rich and provocative music, delicate and strong.

-AUN-
Multigone CDR
Crucial Blast/Crucial Bliss
This seven track disc is undeniably the heaviest music that AUN has created so far, a grinding, distorted soundscape that begins with the keening electronic drones and muffled, disembodied metallic riffing that becomes endlessly tanged in a nest of squirming low-end noise in the opening title track, and steadily ratchets up the heaviness with each track, until we come to the punishing "PALEJOY", a bludgeoning Industrial metal dirge that has massive, GODFLESH-like percussion fused to processed, almost synthetic sounding doom riffage, a black cloud of buzzing, ultra downtuned black dirge drifting over a muffled, slow motion breakbeat. In between, AUN erects vast walls of crumbling distortion and rhythmic guitar loops forged into apocalyptic ambient drift streaked with heavenly synth choirs and sweeping cosmic fx, crushing fifteen-minute blasts of immolating amplifier ragas formed from a nebula of melting woodwind sounds, distant elephantine tympani drums, hellish symphonies of rusted, scraping strings and cele stial electronic whiteout that ends up sounding like something from SKULLFLOWER's Orange Canyon Mind but one hundred times heavier, and strange deep-space blues jam instrumentals with impossibly detuned guitar soaring through black holes of reverb and tape fluctuation.
This is seriously crushing stuff that stands out in sharp contrast to the hordes of amp-leaning feedback riders, and is highly recommended to anyone into KTL, FINAL, BLACK BONED ANGEL, TO BLACKEN THE PAGES, K.K. NULL, AETHNOR, FALL OF THE GREY WINGED ONE, FEAR FALLS BURNING, HLIDOLF, MESSIAH COMPLEX, and other heavy, textural industrial/ambient/sludge groups.Issued in a limited edition of 300 copies.

-AURAL HOLOGRAMS-
Vol. 1 CD
Aural Hypnox
[This is unlike any other AURAL HYPNOX release we have heard so far. It is closer to a TOUCH or RUNE GRAMMOFON aesthetic than anything else. The bleak atmospheres are still there, though really more introspective, only a slow and peculiar ritual in three long parts, of sorts. First track showcases a strange melancholic lo-fi tune that subtly churns while playing, kind of BASINSKI-like, track 2 is a bit more similar to what we have come to expect from AURAL HYPNOX, slow and deep space-ambient à la ZOAT-AON; track 3 is a bit similar to track one, with a more epic feel. One of the ‘’zenest’’ productions from AURAL HYPNOX. Recommended as usual]
---------
(from the label site):::
All of You who have gone before, across the ages we call You, to join us and together reach the unsettling stars of the White Nights, the Horizon of Hollow Earth.
The very first part of the Aural Holograms series incorporates various call and response patterns manifesting vibrating, subtle energies, all of which have been accurately divided into separate rhythmic dimensions and time-shifting aural tapestries.
The overall experience - i.e. the ecstatic effect - is transmitted by the intensity of syncopated rhythms, reed organ lingering on a few tones, self-transforming vocal work accompanied with carefully chosen oscillating tunes and a variety of percussive patterns utilising artefacts crafted according to the methods of traditional metallurgia, as well as real-time tape operations.
{ 61°26'N 21°52'E } The rum is poured on the ground, words are spoken in secrecy: the Dead Men will come to tell their tales.

-BISCLAVERET-
Psyche noMine CD
The Eastern Front
Polish dark ambient/dark wave duo BISCLAVERET presents its album Psyche noMine. It took two years to conceive, resulting in 6 songs (clocking at around 53 minutes). Musically, it's a piece for those interested in moving, yet extraordinary art. Lush strings, industrial rhythms and even noise tones at times summarize the background for Dragos' voice coming from the other, subconscious side of his mind. Lyrically, it's a concept-album of sorts. All the lyrics deal with human sub consciousness. The words on 'Psyche noMine' shows a man entangled in the arcane of the world, somebody who does not notice phenomena around him. The man whose recklessness or even arrogance so natural for him is the cause for him being lost in the surrounding reality. The album's ambiguous title suggests what receivers will deal with when listening to new BISCLAVERET album. A must-have album for fans of NORDVARGR, DEAD MAN’S HILL and COLD MEAT INDUSTRY acts, such as IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES & SANCTUM. Special 3 parts folded cardboard belt

-BOCKSHOLM-
The Haunting Curse Of Skogs-Sara CD
Wrotycz Records
There is a legend saying that Skogs-Sara lived in the forest called Osterskogen, she got a virgin born child named Frans Enoch. Soon after the birth three nude gay men arrived, they had followed the bright iron sign in the sky to the small Skogs-Sara lodge. These three men gave Frans Enoch the bastard one gift each; black clogs, an orange thermal Helly Hansen sweater and a box of snuff. Frans Enoch later worked as a cheese producer but on his spare time he preached that one day there will come two men named PETER ANDERSSON and then the city of Boxholm will forever be doomed. The citizens of Boxholm did not believe Frans Enoch, so they crucified him in the forest and let him die alone. Skogs-Sara went furious and put a curse on the citizens by letting two named PETER ANDERSSON to be born who would terrorize the citizens for all time with a project called Bocksholm. The third terror attack by BOCKSHOLM is now here. After two successful albums on TESCO ORGANISATION and NATO, BOCKSHOLM now turns the root of the problem with the album THE HAUNTING CURSE OF SKOGS-SARA. The music is a weird and explosive experience, it is harder and stranger than ever. It is a psychological weapon that sneaks upon the victims. The citizens of Boxholm will get fucked - and so will probably you!

-BRIAN EVENSON WITH XINGU HILL & TAMARIN-
Altmann’s Tongue CD
Ant-Zen
Upon the circulation of his first short story collection, “Altmann's Tongue” (Knopf, 1994), author and professor BRIAN EVENSON found himself out of favour with his spiritual home ground, the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - the Mormon church. Since that time, Evenson's incisive, acerbic writing about the medieval brutality of contemporary humanity has gone on to garner significant praise, and not a few distinctions. The creation of “Altmann's Tongue” - which features Brian Evenson reading selections from several books through a sonic fabric created by XINGU HILL and TAMARIN - proved to be similarly cataclysmic,
although of markedly different scale. On the surface, it appears to be a simple spoken word project backed by experimental sound design and post-Industrial ambience of a distinctly harrowing nature. However, Brian Evenson's readings, recorded in an impromptu fashion in a sparse white apartment, begat an intensity of emotion that compelled XINGU HILL and TAMARIN to work for over three years on musical reactions that could equal the sentiment of Evenson's recordings. Musical reactions, ranging from morose synth rhythms to enigmatic drones. Evenson's verbal recordings and the music feed upon themselves like the Ouroboros, like the snake which grows by eating itself - a unique, compelling collaboration between a thought-provoking author and two exceptional sound experimentalists. Packaged in a jewelcase with a 16-page booklet.

-BRIAN LADD-
The Unsubmitted Themes For Hellraiser CD
Auf Abwegen
In the liner notes of this record, it is clearly stated that none of the music was ever submitted or considered for the movie HELLRAISER. Brian Ladd, of PSYCLONES and PACIFIC 231 fame, then created these 24 miniatures for his own pleasure, above all. And now we have the pleasure of discovering them! These 24 sound vignettes interrelated and presented in a seamless fashion were produced with the help of a ROLAND S-50 sampler and an E MU PROTEUS sound module; they bear many similarities with the martial or neoclassical music of the COLD MEAT INDUSTRY roster of artists. Let us add to this an epic and cinematographic quality that can be likened to the one found in IN THE NURSERY’s music, for example. In the beginning, the tracks have rather simple structures, simple but efficient, direct; and as the album progresses, structures become a bit more twisted…like HELLRAISER movies ? Being fans of HELLRAISER, we were intrigued by this album. Very, very, very good. A very nice listen; strangely, the music also conjured, in our minds, other images that do not have that much to do with the HELLRAISER universe, that is images of a bleak and imaginary movie of the 50s or the 60s, a movie depicting a nightly pursuit, under the rain, in the sordid alleys of a big metropolis shining with its implacable neons…

-CHAOS AS SHELTER-
Dead Air Broadcasts CD
Immanence/DTA/FleshMadeWord
The enigmatic Chaos As Shelter, from Israel, reinvents itself from one album to another. While ‘’In the Shelter Of Chaos’’ proposed us a rather obscure and occult atmospheric trip, ‘’Dead Air Broadcasts’’ brings us on a tour of nearly 70 minutes through the universe of radio frequencies and short waves. In fact, Vadim Gusis used an old Turnier RK 16 shortwave radio receiver (made by the very well-known Siemens) to generate all the sounds found on this album. Some sound elements will be familiar to you, but others you will think they come from a transmitter located light years from here. It is the way the various sound layers are laid out and superimposed that makes the strength of this album. An excellent record that is undulatory, sometimes more grating, sometimes more ethereal, but extremely subtle and evolutive.

-CHEAPMACHINES-
Transit Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
Cheapmachines' version of the drone eschews the almost stereotypical mellowness that many think characterises such music and instead opts for a far more insistent and muscular variety. The 16 (and change) minute rolling organ tone that makes up the bulk of the sound on offer here is a frontal lobe squeezing, third-eye squeegeeing, perspective contorting hallelujah of otherworldly bliss. Far too short to be fully satisfying and exactly the right length to leave you desperately craving for more.
(Wonderful Wooden Reasons)
A 3-inch containing a 16-minute piece by Phil Julian aka Cheapmachines, composed on organ and electronics. Those who know me are well aware of the fact that I detest the excess of democracy (read “releases”) in static music, dark ambient and minimal electronica, but “Transit” is a remarkable realization indeed, a perfect example of “minimum of means, maximum result” that I’m pleasingly surprised to find in these territories. A gently sober undulation, generated by the adjacent waves and shifting harmonics of the sources, keeps us snug and warm for the whole duration of the track. It morphs just a tad in terms of reverberating hues, and resonates luxuriously throughout. Instantly we feel at home in Cheapmachines’ entrancing world, needing only a few minutes to decide that the “repeat” function is required, here more than anywhere else (at least as far as the last weeks’ discs that lie on the table are concerned). It could even work for those who still believe that they’re “meditating”. I must confess that I’d have appreciated a full-length CD of this particular drone, such is the extent of my liking. Highly recommended. (Touching Extremes)

-CHRISTIAN RENOU & ANEMONE TUBE-
Transference CD
Auf Abwegen
French project BRUME is no more, but its creator, CHRISTIAN RENOU, is as active as he was. This legendary figure of concrete and drone music teams up, this time, with ANEMONE TUBE, a German artist renowned for his monolithic and dense drones; here, ANEMONE TUBE’s compositions are reworked by RENOU. The resulting sound loops oscillate between melancholic drones that could make stones cry and noisy outbursts that are well-measured and controlled, and sometimes embedded as interludes between the calmer passages. Organic, elusive and often emotional, this record surprises the listener by its freshness and audacity. It played on repeat mode at .Angle.Rec.’s headquarters during a whole day… A disc that is unseizable but that will seize you and will litterally possess you.

-CIRCADIAN-
Flanking The Black Moose CD
Radiotarab/Eibon
Circadian is a hybrid sonic exploration stemming from a collaboration between Scott Candey of the infamous Gruntsplatter project, and Jason Walton of the no-less-known Nothing. With this peculiar and unique recording they have undertaken to create surrealistic dark soundscapes that explore atypical emotional and sonic elements with a focus on the peculiar realities of small towns and the ones that sometimes take root off the beaten path. The music represents this by bringing together many disparate sonic elements that stretch beyond the material either participant is known for individually. "Flanking The Black Moose" is a unique study of the eccentric and unobtrusive iniquity that lingers in the ditches of the back roads of North America.. A mix of Schizo-noise / Semi-glitch / Power electronics / Dark ambient and a lot more.
“Flanking The Black Moose” will constantly keep you on the edge of an ever-evolving sonic experience by defeating and escaping the usual structures of the genres. Excellent.

-C.J. MIND & MAN UFO (EXPERIMENT)-
Source CD
Faria Records
If you like music of Steve Roach - you will like it too!
’’c.j. mind & man ufo’’ is the ambient duo of Alexander Kharchenko and Andrei Lobatsevich. They are also known as "eXperiment".
’’The natural beginning of all life on Earth intertwines with estrangement, pressing on the person the incomprehensible power of an external world (space). We are too extraneous and severe, really, to be a monastery for each of us, as if a mourning bedsheet swallowed light. In this contradiction, someone finds something attractive in searching for external forms of life not similar to ours, but probably forgets that his house, family and close friends are important to him, like to any other person. And from a perspective of understanding...it is a ball which does not remain untangled... it is a question exciting you, by all means (here and now)…it is necessary to receive it, it is unique, it is the right answer.’’
’’Stay in a womb…a birth…an individual search for a sense of existence, leaving for the other world. Spring (awakening) before fading in a cold twilight of mature autumn (death). All is marvellously simple. After all, Nature does not suffer intervention in its realm. When it exists without our presence – it flows and sounds absolutely like another light. But the Creator comes and by a wave of an invisible conductor's baton, twists a surprising pattern on beauty, in which the voice of a far star is audible.’’
The teamwork purpose (the present album) consisted, first of all, in a desire to find some integrity in the universe and an attempt to find room for this perception. It is presented on seventy five minutes of music material. Limited edition of 500 pieces.

-COCYTUS-
Dtxenioutha CD
Ekishnugal Records
A journey through a sombrous realm filled by vagrant souls bereaved of hope straying in the brumal ashes with dirge from solitude and toll of church bells. Mesmerizing soundscapes with ambient chants, occultist whispering voices and rituals, layers of textures swirling in dreamy unison. Dark, hibernal and beautiful music, ideal for bleak nights of solitary contemplation. Comparable to RAISON D'ETRE, LUSTMORD & VIDNA OBMANA. (EKISHNUGAL RECORDS)
An album we rediscover with great pleasure! Well, it is tinged with a dark-wave touch, but it also shines with isolationist intensity. A project that is still rather unknown of many, and this is criminal. A more-than –respectable add to any atmospheric music collection.

-COMFORT.FIT-
Museum CD
MHz
The project "Comfort.fit" came into being in 1999 for the musicians Boris Mezga and Fabien Schivre. Both artists live and work near Reutlingen, a few miles south of Stuttgart (Germany). Each gathered their first musical experiences as DJ's in local Clubs. In this period they were mainly influenced by minimalist techno music. Today, under the name, Comfort.fit " they work various sound and noise elements into, as they say, a very "urban" music. To their influences, Boris und Fabien reckon names like "Ninja Tune", "Funkstörung" or "DJ Krush". The talent of "Comfort.fit" lies in the playful way they deal with rhythm structures and samples. The numbers are based mainly on a hip-hop beat. The addition of jazz elements, sound and voice samples makes every track into a very individual and unique sound experience. Each individual piece on the, "Museum" album unifies several musical sequences. Boris Mezga und Fabien Schivre create their pieces independently of each other, mainly on computer, so that they can be seen as solo artists. The pieces on this album, their first, were the result of one and a half years work. Both artists set great worth on high sound quality and the individuality of each piece.
File under: instrumental+surreal downtempo. Released on Klangstabil’s label.

-CONTEMPLATRON-
Antarabhâva/The Six Realms CD
Wrotycz Records
On some records, the opening track sets the tone for the rest of the album; it tells the listener that his journey will take him into this or that direction. It is absolutely false here! Indeed, the opening cut is an outstanding one, with the powerful way it uses sounds inspired by the old guard of the ambient/industrial sector – for example ZONE or even SIGILLUM S, who, like CONTEMPLATRON for this album, had chosen the theme of the Tibetan Book Ov The Dead at a certain point. That theme was used many a time but once again, its application is really judicious on this disc. So I was saying…after an introduction that is most ritual and instinctive, powerful, subtly psychedelic, we drift towards more electronica-oriented landscapes whose aerial and ethereal nature strengthens the esoteric vision of the project. The music remains essentially ambient, but with riffs and a groove, and of course, Tibetan chants which pepper the soundtrack at times, but they seldom occur, and for a relatively short period,
and sounds that seem to be field recordings. Track after track, the music bursts into multiple intimist and hallucinated microcosms and constantly transforms itself. Did I say ‘psychedelic’ above? I would use that word again. A reptilian album that is full of surprises. Way way recommended!

Going beyond the realm of not audible stressing the audible intervals, morphing the sounds into intricate and disturbing digital architectures: this is the strength of CORPOPARASSITA. -CRANIOCLAST-
Carl's On Acit 10''
The Ministry Of Detours
4th part of a special series on the AUF ABWEGEN label, a series created for the Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland of C.M. Von Hausswolff and Leif Elggren, by The Ministry Of Detours. Go to http://www.elgaland-vargaland.org/ for more details! This time around, legendary German duo CRANIOCLAST has the place of honour. They are known by many people for their atmospheric and atypical dark music, which are documented, among others, on LOST IN KARAK or ICONCLASTAR. Here, rhythmic elements support those very peculiar atmospheres (disorientating synthetic layers, occasional strange and echoing voices or samples that are echoing in the soundtrack…) but those elements are so deconstructed, far from the standard 4/4 structure and subdued that they themselves become additional atmospheres. From time to time, there is a dummy or a sudden slowing down of the ‘’tempo’’ to confuse the issue a bit. Without any doubt, one of the strangest items in this catalogue. But this type of strangeness is, for us, a virtue. 2 exclusive tracks that, once again, confirm the originality of CRANIOCLAST (important: intended to be played on 45rpm).

Des tempes qui se vitrifient ou se marbrent Mini-CDR

CRIA CUERVOS, from Italy (as its name and the track title don't show it) proposes here a truly beautiful piece of dark ambient, after some other releases on THISCO or MYSTERY SEA. Slowly evolving, the sound constantly progresses to reach an unexpected climax... Beware, the beast is alive. (label info)

-CRIA CUERVOS-
Ilauna Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
You know that scene in a movie where the orchestra is getting ready to play and they're sitting there warming up by scraping, plucking, tuning and generally being all discordant and noisy. Yes? Well, in the case of Cria Cuervos that scene is the starting point, the ending point and indeed the whole point although instead of a orchestra you should maybe picture the backline from Einsturzende Neubauten and the day-shift from your local ironworks. You're intrigued, I can tell. You should be, it's very good. (Wonderful Wooden Reasons)
Maggi’s last release on Afe records was ok, but I was not completely convinced of the final result above all if compared with the good collaboration with Bradley recently repressed on Small Voices. This simple 3” mcd Cria Cuervos works minimally, and according to my personal opinion pays homage to some of the early heavy weights in his category. With that I obviously mean people like Z’ev, Organum, Tietchens, Zoviet France, Watermann and so on. Given the fact I consider that to be one of the most interesting bunch in experimentalists for many reasons one of which is the fact those “heroes” were not limiting themselves to just use the industrial label since they probably couldn’t care less to be labeled this or that way a damn good example. About nineteen minutes of spectral sounds in which I perceive what I think it’s a chain (?) or a metallic thing that clinks looped like somebody is dragging it around like one of those prisoners in the Medieval castles (don’t ask me why I’ve wrote this bullshit?!?). This’ probably the darkest work this Italian has done, at the same time as I’ve told it’s damn old school but it gets you where he want to for it’s scary or even better it’s “spectrally” obsessive. (Chain DLK)
The music here is more experimental, more loud and, dare we say it, more industrial. Cuervos scrapes the barrel of metal and picks up the sound to give it some additional treatment, by adding a bit of reverb here and there. Over the course of the piece things develop in a rather minimal manner - it seems as if sounds are stretched out and more space is added between them. Later on these empty spaces are filled with what could be field recordings. Quite interesting, since this piece moves out of the known drone field and crosses the field of noise and industrial on one hand and microsound on the other - certainly in the second part of the piece. -CRIA CUERVOS-
Von Feuerschlunden CDR
AFE
CRIA CUERVOS is the music project of Italian sound artist EUGENIO MAGGI. Influenced by surrealism, minimalism, Drone and Industrial music, Hard Core/Punk and Grind, his music has evolved from more noisy experiments and now sits somewhere in between darker ambience and electroacoustic. During the years he created several full-lenght solo works and also collaborated with artist such as PAUL BRADLEY, SPARKLE IN GREY, NINTH DESERT and MAURIZIO BIANCHI. His music was released on many international labels: IMMANENCE, THISCO, MYSTERY SEA, TAALEM, TWENTY HERTZ and DIELECTRIC RECORDS. "Vor Feuerschlünden" (...German for "Before Throats of Fire"...) is Cría Cuervos's latest full-lenght offering and it probably is his best solo work to date.

-DARUIN-
Fake Professor of Japanese Pipe Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
This short project by Daruin is made of three impressive pieces; the first, "Scum 'n' database", is a metallic cavity resonance exploration with a distinct cybernetic flavour. "You always tell a lie" states its direction violently, submerging the space with vapors of venom, white noise and industrial vagueness bordering on the almost static sound of a turbocharged mechanism. "Please retire" gurgles the end of this 3-inch with a very nice touch of class. It's another classic case of one hoping for a full treatment after just a short glimpse...(Touching Extremes)

-MATHIAS DELPLANQUE-
Le Pavillon Témoin CD
Low Impedance Recordings
‘’Le Pavillon Temoin’’ (‘The Show House’), marks the beginning of a new phase in the music of Mathias Delplanque. This is a very subtle and personal piece of work exploring the aesthetics of modern electronica, jazz, folk and musique concrete. Acoustic instruments (guitar, piano, cello, drums, accordion, melodica, bells) form the backbone of the compositions, sometimes dissolving into particles of abstract sound, and at other times conspiring to create familiar textures. This fragile balance between noisy collages and pleasing melodies is the key to the album’s atmosphere, it¹s a listening treat for the mind, the ear and the imagination. With each layer of shimmering guitar, The Show House reveals itself in all its mysterious glory.’’ (label info)--
— quite different from the ‘’Ma Chambre Quand Je N’y Suis Pas [Montréal]’’ cd released on our MONDES ELLIPTIQUES parallel label (number .e.q.05.02.), which proposed a long drone odyssey …but similarly shimmering, yes. This time, hyper-organic field recordings rub shoulders with dub post-rock and glitch-tronica inspired structures. Both complex and without any pretension. The best of all facets of Mathias Delplanque’s universe, all styles taken into account. Precise avant-garde on one hand, memorable melodies on the other hand. Melts in your mouth! DESTRUCTO SWARMBOTS has carved a unique niche for themselves over the past 4 years. Their live shows consist of chaotic walls of white noise, improvised textures and battered instruments. -DONIS-
Vacuum CD
Autarkeia
This is not the latest Donis' record. It was recorded in 1997, when Lithuania was still in deepest electronic music crisis. "Vacuum" had waited seven years for his real live in personal Donis' archive. The album consists of only one long track, that could be ascribed to "ambient' stylistics. Though the sound of album proposes feeling of dark emptiness, it can not be described as "dark ambient". By its influence, "Vacuum" reminds "Coil's" ambient works that take you to the psychedelic trip. Extremely low generator vibration in record doesn't allow the feeling that you're high in the mountains to go out. The air is being crossed by toneless and icy sounds, music motives are deep and sharp. Every stream of sound will work out as if you, the listener, are in a trip of deep emptiness. Not unlike the isolationist spheres conjured by artists such as Kontakt der Jünglinge/Thomas Koner or Sleep Research Facility. Way, way recommended!

-DREAMCATCHER-
Nimbus CD/LP
OhNoNo/Fluorescent Friends
One the sleeve, one can see the friendly faces of the two members of Montreal duo DREAMCATCHER, Katherine Kline and Blake Hargreaves. The visual aesthetics of the whole can remind of certain sleeves of the indie or indie/pop uiniverse. However, those ‘naive’ appearances are deceptive; DREAMCATCHER represents one of the noisiest sonic outfits in the current underground universe of Montreal. Their weapons of choice? Sound manipulations, turntablism, treated and wacked-out vocal performances, Gristle-esque riffs (like in THROBBING GRISTLE!), tortured guitar and feedback, hot-wiring, dirty lo-fi rhythms and a couldn’t-give-a-damn touch that is a bit WOLF EYES-ish. Intensity, yes mam’, yes mister. NIMBUS is their first official album (after a certain number of releases that were extremely limited, on cassette and CDr). This album is available on CD and vinyl (yes, vinyl, come on, you know you want to listen to those sound concoctions on good old vinyl slab!!!). One of our faves of 2005. Sonic explorations that always lead to an unexpected result, a sound cocktail of the utmost unbridled and satisfying nature. Montreal…city of the thousand and one noises? DREAMCATCHER is one of the worthy representatives of the pack. The NIMBUS album tells you why. Strongly recommended to fans of indie-noise but also to those willing to discover /re-discover ‘’industrial music’’ in its prime and genuine meaning. -EMPUSAE + NICK GREY-
Simple Black Lines In A Diagram mini-CD
Brume Records
Both NICK GREY and EMPUSAE should dispense any introductions and are known for their collaborative efforts with other artists. The first came to prominence with the post rock/experimental/electronics ensemble L’EGLISE DU MOUVEMENT PÉRISTALTIQUE INVERSÉ and his solo work crossing over avant-rock and classical compositions in addition to being a member of 48 CAMERAS. In addition to his highly acclaimed ritual electronics project EMPUSAE, Sal Ocin is an accomplished percussionist and member of THIS MORN’ OMINA, TZOLK’IN as well as live member of AH CAMA-SOTZ. “Simple Black Lines in a Diagram” is the seamless encounter of the talent and creative worlds of both artists. In it, EMPUSAE’s captivating tribal rhythms and singular ambiances provide a perfect complement to NICK GREY’s expertise at crafting and interpreting melancholic songs of exquisite elegance. The result is a delicate work of intricate and subtle composition: sad, introspective, haunting and somewhat disturbing at times. NICK GREY and EMPUSAE expert ly crafted a set of melancholic haunting ritual ballads which should be a must for any discerning listener. Mastered by IC434, this release comes packed in a luxurious A4 pack with artwork by [Massen Grab] with drawings by Katelijne de Corte. -FABIO ORSI-
Birds Are Smart But They Cannot Speak Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
From the previous releases by Fabio Orsi which we learned to love him as a true meister of drones from the digital end of the telescope, influenced by say Stars Of The Lid and William Basinski. Here he present a new work, with a bit of a silly title, but I am sure he means well. More drones at the start, but once the work is on the road, Orsi adds some open ended strumming to the table and then slowly thickens the work with more heavy duty drones. Quite nice, and remembering me a bit of the recent work by Machinefabriek, which have that some post-rock-in-combination-with-electronics, moving away from the strict drone work, but also stays a bit away from the space rock (less the drums) of post rock. Nice piece throughout. (FdW, Vital Weekly)
This 17-minute composition, which comes on a 3-inch CD from a label whose output I had been missing for a while, presents a few basic similarities that prevent the music to be described as “groundbreaking”, yet at the same time define its elegance and, dare I say, beauty. Orsi starts with something that sounds like muffled shortwave à la Asher, then introduces a dose of semi-Basinskian loops (which, halfway through, are contrasted by a clean guitar timbre that distracts from the concentration quite a bit but luckily doesn’t last too much), the whole finally morphing into a heartwarming repetitive figure, a looped arpeggio that goes close to ripping a page off Aidan Baker’s book but also reminds me of Pepe Maina (an Italian loner that decades ago released a splendid first album, “Il canto dell’arpa e del flauto”, then went straight to a world of forgettable self-releases). Field recordings and water are used sparingly. I can’t actually say more than this: the piece is very pleasing despite not being an innova ting statement; and let’s be thankful that birds cannot speak, otherwise they wouldn’t be smarter (and much more appreciated here) than humans. -FALSE MIRROR-
North CD
Thonar Records
North is the second full-length album from FALSE MIRROR. Many of the techniques, methods and effects the artist developed during the production of 'Chronostatic Scenes' were applied. Whereas 'Chronostatic Scenes' dealt with a dreamscape atmosphere, 'North' is much colder and darker. The artists was always impressed by arctic surroundings and the early expeditions to the poles. This is the mood of the album, like an arctic expedition somewhere into nowhere.
Many of the sounds come from recordings of acoustic instruments like guitars, accordion, gongs, mouth organ which were extremely effected and processed. There are also environmental recordings he made from the North Atlantic Ocean and during the European windstorm 'Kyrill'.
The cover again was painted by Sylvia Riester and was inspired by the stunning fjords of Norway.

-FIN DE SIECLE-

As OPN states it ‘’The brand new release from Fin de Siècle is now available from OPN. This LP is now available at OPN records as a 12’’LP limited to only 300 copies!’’ A real treat for fans as well as people who were just introduced to the group. This could be seen as a summary of various periods of the band, sonically speaking. The sound is highly cinematographic and ethereal as usual, very evocative, with the unmistakable neoclassical and ‘’ghost-ambient’’ touch, samples and some special effects and experimentations all through the disc. Some tracks even reminded us of the neoclassical and/or cold wave eras of artists such as CLAIR OBSCUR. Introspective, expansive and really, really good. As stated earlier, very limited as well. Hurry up.

-FLATLINE SKYLINE-
Horizon Grid CD
Mechanoise Labs
Here is a very singular album, probably one of the ‘poppiest’ productions in this catalogue. But don’t get me wrong: pop in a very peculiar sense. Well. Sometimes, to help people figure out what a music or artist is about, one has to drop categories or names of other artists, which I will be doing here. Just think of an ethereal sound à la Attrition or Soul Whirling Somewhere, with syncopated and idm rhythms! One can even discern a little touch of ’indietronica’ (Postal Service etc.) in this disc. The whole is well orchestrated and, above all, diversified. A highly listenable record which is extremely efficient in its sonic seductive power. The discovery of the month!

-FLINT GLASS-
Nyarlathotep CD
Brume Records/Funkwelten Records
The most recent FLINT GLASS production. I think that at the time of its release, this album represented one of the most anticipated discs in the domain or dark rhythmic music. The release of the excellent HIERAKONPOLIS album dated back a few years already. The wait was worth it: we can talk of an accentuated and magnified HIERAKONPOLIS. All the elements with which Gwenn Tremorin’s music became a favourite in the scene assert themselves a step further, in this second album, with even more presence. You liked the fractured dark-tech rhythms of the first album? Well, they are still there but revitalized with a strong feel that pushes them to a higher degree; as for the somber ambiences, they bring us a step further into a tortured universe of the most lovecraftian nature (by the way, Nyarlathotep is a character belonging to the mythology of Cthulhu of the legendary Howard Phillips Lovecraft). To come back to the rhythms, they transmit a sense of urgency that is even more amplified at times, more dance-floor ori ented (but always in purest FLINT GLASS tradition!). So, in fact, we are dealing with a production that is well put together (what else one could expect?). In my humble opinion, ‘’Cthulhu Dawn’’ could be a killing on a dancefloor (but there are others as well!). As an added bonus, remixes executed by AH CAMA-SOTZ, XABEC, DISHARMONY and THIS MORN’ OMINA + EMPUSAE. Excellent!

-FRANCISCO LOPEZ-
el día anterior a la emergencia de los adultos de magicicada mini-CD
Purple Soil
’’The music is there but only your house's walls and selected parts of your auditive system respond to the connection. The piece lasts only a little more than 15 minutes, yet it is a masterpiece; a single subsonic drift comes out a little, then withdraws, then again returns to occupy the corners of the ceiling, slowly taking possession of your essence. Moving around the room, the sound becomes more intense or is almost completely cancelled in a sort of illusory phase whose gradual consumption is completed just when the body recognizes this throbbing code as familiar. Impossible not to be impressed by this game of contrasts between tension and comfort, which confirms López's current state of grace. The "repeat" button is absolutely recommended.’’ (Touching Extremes, June 2006)

-FRANCISCO LOPEZ / STEVE RODEN-
Le chemin du paradis split-CD
Fario
FRANCISCO LOPEZ is a diver in the ocean of sounds. He has been exploring their different stages since the beginning of the eighties. First approached as abstract, LOPEZ' sonic universe is also to be seen and heard as a deep and sensitive experience of the noise of the world - that he calls " belle confusion ". For his own track, LOPEZ comments : " it's one of the quietest pieces I have ever done (...) really changing the perception of time ". Thus, he worked close to a frontier that must be considered as extreme as the opposite layers of pure noise.
STEVE RODEN also known as " IN BE TWEEN NOISE " acts as a enlightener of the " insignificant " and " forgotten " objects which surround us. From them, he builds his music and poetry, so sensitive, so delicate and strangely made. A subtle link from a son concret to its musical counterpart. Not so many have achieved to become, as STEVE RODEN, the vessel of the intimate emotions.

-FRANK ROTHKAMM-
Moers Works 1982-1984 CD
Monochrome Vision
FRANK ROTHKAMM is the one of most interesting musicians of today, contemporary of industrial culture. He is a true underground figure, the fighter of invisible front, who realized a number of projects, produced great records for his own FLUX RECORDS label. Being a professionally trained musician, he was shifting freely from tape collages in his teens, and going through different forms including chamber music and pop arrangements. "Moers Works" is his first experiment, discovered and unearthed by the MONOCHROME VISIONS label incidentally. Archive materials recorded back in 1982-84 and released after quarter of century! All tracks on this CD were recorded with this completely analog "sampling" system which incorporated a borrowed Korg MS-20 synthesizer in Tracks 2 and 10. In Track 7, the base samples of guitar, piano, and strings were recorded at the studio of the local Castle Theatre, where he trained as an actor. ROTHKAMM perceived his compositional technique to be very "digital"; informed by both Punk Rock with its sudden shifts and hard cuts, and by the mathematics of permutation. All MOERS WORKS were composed to be used in live performance, and it was in these works where he developed his first piece that took place in an unusual locations. Track 3 was recorded during a 1 week experiment where he would live and work at night and sleep during the day. Track 7 was commissioned by the theatre and forms the overture to the Heiner Mueller play of the same name, commencing with a stone thrown through a window. Tracks 4 through 6 were part of his ambitious "Fisch II" series, first performed in 1984 in the 25- seat Pulverhaus, a 16th century ammunition powder storage building located in the park. This brought him publicity that he has never regained since. [label info]

-GALAXY THE INCUBATOR-
UFO Are Messengers Of Satan CDR
Operator Produkzion
Space Ambient / Noise inspired by a yellow book about "UFO mysteries" (where from the album title is taken, and each of 28 tracks is dedicated to one of the "extraterrestrial civilizations" described in a book). Vacuum drone pressure turns into abrasive tracks with blurred voices from far out and then makes room for almost industrial futuristic pulsations and uneasy hiss of apparatus. Really new approach to the seemingly trite space subject. 116 copies. [press release from the label]

-GIANCARLO TONIUTTI-
Ura Itam Taala' Momojmuj Löwajamuj Cooconaja mini-CD
f e r n s Recordings
This composition does enjoy a hermetic quality, in spite of GIANCARLO TONIUTTI's explanation that he derived all of the sounds from a field recording he made in Italy involving a mountain, a 10ft tall cross, a metal pylon, and a temple bell. Out of that environment and those objects, GIANCARLO TONIUTTI arrives at a record that might appear somewhat meditative at first, with its constant wash of low frequencies; but upon deeper investigations into the piece, he reveals queasy, off-kilter tonalities which gently vibrate against each other, bristling with quiet textures.
GIANCARLO TONIUTTI’s sound is pretty unique, somewhat like the early electronic work of IANNIS XENAKIS with the diminutive sensibilities of early BERNHARD GUNTER. (label info)
GIANCARLO TONIUTTI has worked with renowned artists such as SIEGMAR FRICKE, ANDREW CHALK and CONRAD SCHNITZLER, and, as early as 1985, had releases on the notorious BROKEN FLAG label.

-GIRNU GIESMES-
Rupus Miltai CD
Autarkeia
“Rupus Miltai“ – presently counted as the eighth album of Lithuanian post-industrial music pioneer “Girnu Giesmes“. The begetter of this Project Laurynas Jukonis used to mark all his albums by some most archaic and original elements of Lithuanian culture, such as the glee, rhymed recitations in ancient Lithuanian language, some ornament on the cover. They reflect the coherence between the author and archaic worldview, genetics of ancestors, moreover – they perfectly adopt the ancient code for enriching the collective future thinking. The newest album entitled with the ancient relic, genuine and dearly fine Lithuanian euphemism – “Rupus Miltai“ – which is not translatable into other languages, perhaps even not explicable to foreigners, but naturally acceptable by everyone of Lithuanian descent as some higher element of communication, open to selected ethnos. The author of this Project chose this relic of sublime reality as the guiding point to surreal, psychedelic trip into different, more universal reality w here the ocean of associations and infinite possibility of interpretation rise. The web of senses generated by the album “Rupus Miltai“ throws the listener along the emotional draughts as if the whirlwind carrying the small butterfly. A stream of transparent ambient suddenly grows into the hysterical ritual dance of shamans, leading to the labyrinth of feelings hiding the fearful obscurity. As the battle falls, the light descends, and the vanishing mind erases every thought and sense. “Rupus Miltai“ is a peculiar, psychedelic album. It has various eclectic post-industrial accents twinkling in it, with unique style aesthetics unrolling and blazing in unconventional loops of dark and hypnotic ambient and frozen industrial pulse.

A harsh journey of sound structures summoned from the deepest caverns of Hell by the scene's most prolific madmen, Nordvargr (SE) and Goat (USA). -GRKZGL-
Antitulé Mini-CDR
(No label)
New release by Montreal artist GRKZGL, quite different from what can be found on the ESQUE mini cd (.A.R.03.01.). A 21-minute monolithic track, very similar to what we could hear during the live set of the artist at one of the most recent TEXTURES events (that was a magical sound performance). This time, GRKZGL explores the possibilities offered by drones, and the spacious and/or isolationist worlds they conjure. One can talk of rather lo-fi and very cold drones, with some surface sonorities that, from time to time, literally seem to try to pull themselves out of the raw and generally minimalist sound mass which composes the backbone of this record. This is not dark music in the literal sense of the word; it is rather very GREY. Like the ESQUE mini-cd, ANTITULÉ plays with disorientating patterns; the only difference is that the sound is more ‘ventilated’, more ambient. Induces repeated listening!!! Limited to 100 copies for the whole world…

-THE HAFLER TRIO-
An Utterance of the Supreme Ventriloquist CD
Soleilmoon Records
“An Utterance of the Supreme Ventriloquist” was originally issued by Soleilmoon in 1996 in a hand-numbered edition of 451 clear vinyl Lps. Now, nine years later, it’s being released for the first time on compact disc. “Utterance” consists of two 21-minute pieces, “Placing the Seed” and “Seeding the Place”. It’s psychedelic head-trip that reaches a similar plane of consciousness occupied by Nurse With Wound. The material has been completely remastered for maximum digital appreciation, and is presented in a deluxe embossed folder with lavishly printed inserts, all wrapped in semi-transparent paper, very much in the style of the recent reissues of “The Sea Org” and “Mastery of Money”. This compact disc edition is strictly limited to 1000 copies. As I usually say, a mandatory release, like all works by Andrew McKenzie.

-HALO MANASH-
Am Kha Astrie CD
Aural Hypnox
As the apex of Spring heralds awakenings, HALO MANASH emerges from Winter and hibernation ~ Treefaced. Horns spiral skyward and antlers ascend. A tripartite trunk arises – a pillar that splits all worlds.
AM KHA ASTRIE, a work of heliotropic, elemental ambient, is an opening, an awakening, a summoning, a crossing of thresholds. After their previous oneiric and minimal album, AM KHA ASTRIE sees HALO MANASH re-integrate a more diverse instrumentation and a multiplicity of sound sources to create their work, which consists of seven interrelated tracks. AM KHA ASTRIE is a complete work in itself, but can also be viewed as the second facet of a tripartite series of works that are part of one holistic creation.
Archaic elemental drums, bones and spiralling animal horns merge with various metal percussions, chimes, wind-instruments, voices and a multitude of other instruments to create a deep, earthly and yet celestially-bound opus. AM KHA ASTRIE is a massive and sometimes ominous work, a primal experience of coming-into-being, with all the terror, ecstasy and divine awe that it implies.
Comes in a hand finished cardboard booklet, in an edition of 1000 copies.

-HERPES Ö DELUXE-
Kielholen CD
Hinterzimmer
HERPES Ö DELUXE is a four piece group from Bern, Switzerland working since more than 10 years in a musical field between atmospheric noise, electronica bruitiste, sombre soundscapes and harsh drones. Their instruments are partly analogue electronic gear, partly self-built or deconstructed tools like tape loops or turntables that are (mis-)used as rhythms machines. The compositions of HERPES Ö DELUXE are – to a great extent – structured sound monuments that often last between 30 and 50 minutes. The band creates these in time-consuming rehearsals and recording sessions although they are usually performed live once or twice only. Such recordings often disappear in the archives. A while ago, RETO MÄDER aka RM74 came up with the idea of picking out some excerpts of their vast catalogue of unreleased music and trying to create some sort of ‘’song collection’’, meaning that these tracks are outtakes of longer, sometimes slowly developing compositions but here are re-defined by RM74 (who was also involved in the pos t-production process as a guest musician) as self-contained tracks full of aspiration, nostalgia and stoic romanticism. This is not collaboration in the common sense but rather HERPES Ö DELUXE’s music heard through the ears of RM74. ‘’KIELHOLEN by HERPES Ö DELUXE – together with ‘’Fireproof In 8 Parts’’ by RM74 – is the starting point of the new label HINTERZIMMER based in Bern, Switzerland.

-I:WOUND-
The Patricide e.p. Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
I:wound is perhaps best known for his rich, eastern sound collages; sampling and looping various fragments of field recordings to produce a sound somewhere between Kiyoshi Mizutani and Muslimgauze. However, on his latest release for Edinburgh’s Locus of Assemblage, he has woven a more passionate and personal product, exploring his feelings for his father. As the title betrays, these are not the most endearing of emotions…The main vehicle or catalyst for these ideas is the text of Sylvia Plath’s poem, “Daddy”; an attempt by the poet to come to terms with the memory of her own father and the residual images of him she found in her husband, Ted Hughes. I:wound has transferred his own spoken interpretation of the poem to a musical setting that is atypical for this very idiosyncratic artist. The first track, The Tongue Stuck in My Jaw, taking its title from a line in Plath’s poem sees him create a thick, droning atmosphere, full of backwards timbres and a light refrain of acoustic guitar that somehow only ser ves to darken the already bleak aural image. The next piece, simply titled Daddy v2 sees the music reduced to sheer silence, the only being I:wound’s venomous reading of “Daddy” in rasping, hushed tones. It certainly serves to evoke the correct atmosphere and shows how identifiable the poem is for the artist. Following this unsettling reading comes Integrated, a combination of the opening soundscape and fragments of the previous vocal track. More than just feeling like a refrain or reprisal, though, this track feels like a natural progression as the emotional content reaches its apex and every throb of the heavy drone feels laden with bitter anger. Finally, we are presented with …An Epilogue, a piece which sees a return to the familiar ethnic sounds of his other work as chimes and chanters play out a characteristic melody, underscored by a rich, bass-heavy drone. Although this may seem incongruous with the rest of the EP, we soon hear the reason for its inclusion as a slow voice recites Shelley’s sonnet, “Ozymandias” a poem that feels so appropriate in this context, with its tale of an “antique land” and buried sculptures in the desert. But no sooner are we invited to look on these works and despair than, you bastard, it’s through. (Immanence)

-THE INFANT CYCLE-
Ephedrin Bird Samba Mini-CDR
The Locus Of Assemblage
This 3" CDR that I came across apparently marks the ten year anniversary of this Canadian noise project. Limited to 200 copies this disc is a 3 track selection of electronic sounds of noise/experimental style, packaged in sort of a aqua greenish wallpaper-y type of cardboard. Track 1's Gears and circuits, free flowing neurons are a tour of the community's power plant, walking along basement paths of super energy pipelines and watching the atoms ricket to their intended destination. This warps into a Tipping Toe of glimmering and twinkling, leading into Track 2 which is a cold more lonely walk in hurried subway tunnels of tension. Footsteps, snapshots and echoey lulls pan from side to side until "Applaud, It's Over", a 10 minute piece of slithering buzz and crackles, the stuff that dreams of feedback, air traffic radio are made of. If you died of a relatively low voltage electrocution shock, this is the language your brain would be speaking for those final couple of seconds until the big sleep. (Garr)
Quite modest are the celebrations of ten years of existence of The Infant Cycle, three tracks spanning just under 20 minutes. The Infant Cycle hail around in drone circles as far as I know what they are about. The first two tracks are relatively short, the first with it's prefab samba rhythm couldn't bother me me at all. A clickly rhythm, taking from a 'sliced vinyl record playout' in combination with processed shortwave in 'Radio Flower' is a much better piece and serves The Infant Cycle better. The third piece 'Applaud, It's Over' is the longest piece and by far the best. Shimmering drones, made up from feedback and air traffic radio starts out heavy, takes back and comes back in full dark ambient mode. This is how, at least, I like it. Spacious yet rumbling darkness. Let's hope that the first piece is not a forecast of a chance of direction... (Vital Weekly)
A title like this is usually not likely to announce a rape date with the dark clouds of noisy stupor that this mini CD contains. If this music could just dazzle with modulating buzzes and droning distortion, it also delivers through rhythmic acceleration - like at the record's beginning, where fake samba rhythms REALLY sound on pills. Without too much of a brainwashing, The Infant Cycle gets listeners by the throat with raucous smoothness and oleaginous drains filled with splattered grey matter. The result - as in most of Locus' releases - is addictive and well crafted. (Touching Extremes)

-THE INFANT CYCLE-
Playout CDR
Zhelezobeton
THE INFANT CYCLE is a project of the Canadian artist Jim DeJong working under this name since 1994. It may seem surprising, but all these 13 years he remained in the underground of experimental music, and his name is well-known only to inveterate enthusiasts and explorers of this strange phenomenon. The project has put out 6 full-length albums on cassettes and CD-Rs, several singles and an amazing series of minions called "Clear Shape" released in ultra-limited editions on transparent vinyls of unusual forms (square, hexagon and triangle). Jim has also recorded a lot of collaboration works with such musicians as BIG CITY ORCHESTRA, DRONAEMENT, ORPHX, AIDAN BAKER, DELPHIUM, etc., some of them were published by his own label THE CEILING. THE INFANT CYCLE’s music has never been notable for tensity or ornateness, instead of this it focuses on the subtle aspects of sounding of separate timbres and their combinations. Such textural orientation allows to create a completely peculiar effect, and the seeming
minimalism carries into the contemplation of the infinity of possible microsound combinations. In this connection, Jim knows how to get on with both rhythms and drone ambient prostration. Among his favourite instruments are Poly-800, shortwaves, feedback, field recordings and altered vinyl records. Vinyls deserve special mentioning. Jim carved the runout grooves of records and thus created simple and unembellished (yet in some ways, unpredictable) rhythm patterns. Once he decided to start a project severely limiting the sound sources to one carved playout and the operational sounds of his old 4-speed Califone record player. Additional noises were generated by running a razor blade along the platter while it was spinning (the blade at different altitudes, and the platter at different speeds which was picked up by the needle), and the tone arm being vibrated into different tones by a violin bow (amplified via the needle). An early track (called, fittingly "Playout (Early)") appeared on "Lágrimas De Miedo N°8 - Sund", a compilation CD coming with the eighth issue of France's "FEAR DROP " magazine (2001). Two excerpts were also released as a free promotional 5" by THE CEILING to announce the then-upcoming CD release of "Playout" on the American label MERCHANTS OF SOUND. But the label soon folded out, and the recording was lying and lying in the bins of THE INFANT CYCLE's archive. And now ZHELEZOBETON is glad to have an opportunity to present this work to your attention!

-THE INFANT CYCLE/JARED DAVISON-
The Ceiling Periodical I Mini-CDR
The Ceiling
The Infant Cycle is a Canadian project which has been around for a few years now but that remained hidden in the shadow of the underground. Preferred tactics and tools: field recordings, improv and composition in alternance, grey zones and eccentric, bleak and organic microworlds. The piece that T.I.F. proposes here combines all those elements and more: its backbone rests on a frenetic and syncopated rhythmic structure that is totally atypical, with various atmospheric layers bearing a certain sense of urgency and a somber underlying tension. This peculiar ambience resumes on the second track of the mini-cdr, created by Jared Davison, who, however, works a bit differently: the sounds which he presents are generated entirely from the crackles and hums of old vinyl records. I would have never thought that such monstrous worlds were hidden in the grooves of a 33 rpm record. Sublime!

-THE INFANT CYCLE/ARC-
The Ceiling Periodical II Mini-CDR
The Ceiling
At last, the 2nd release in this mini-cdr series of which each disc presents an exclusive track by The Infant Cycle, with, on the B side (in a manner of speaking), an unreleased track from a friend project. This time around, the excellent Infant Cycle is accompanied by Toronto’s ARC trio, much to our pleasure. ARC is one of the many projects of the productive Aidan Baker. The Infant Cycle does it again with electroacoustic manipulations bearing a sense of disorientation but also sublime variations. ARC, for their part, proposes us a little piece that belongs to their usual aesthetics: melodic drones complete with beautiful ritual percussive elements. Limited to..well..80 copies? As strong as Volume I of the series (see the preceding entry in this catalogue), in a slightly more accessible vein. Excellent!

IndieZiert Records
Industrial/Power Electronics/Martial/Dark Ambient project from Berlin/Germany. Small DVD package with postcard & sticker - limited to 477 hand-numbered copies. The artist was featured on the double NEW WORLD ORDER compilation (THONAR RECORDS). For fans of abrasive and/or obscure minimal muzak à la IRIKARAH, THOROFON, or even MARIA ZERFALL, CRUELTY CAMPAIGN…Dedicated to the radio waves and the first radiobroadcasts from the 1920s, exploring the power of the then shortwave radio as a tool for propaganda and manipulation. An elegant recording, skillfully done, with a permeating eerie feel and some enveloping sound manipulations. The intermingling of archive recordings with rhythms/ambiences, while already done before, flows extremely well here. An album with a historical substance and an evolutionary sonic feel. Recommended.

-JARL-
Sealed Void CD
Force Of Nature/Annihilvs
This project is the brainchild of visionary Erik Jarl, also known for his contribution to the infamous heavy-electronics outfit IRM. Released on American labels Force of Nature and Annihilvs (the label of Navicon Torture Technologies), Sealed Void has Jarl using his skills with electronica to create merciless machine-driven darkened soundscapes. Isolationism is the word here: abandoned places, where movement is almost static or non-existent, dead-cold worlds where no ray of light infiltrates. But there’s always that indefinable presence, something that spies you hidden underneath the amorphous and crushing layers of sound. This is the world of Jarl. Suffocating but strangely addictive!!! Recommended.

Akatisi/Somnolens CD
Tantric Harmonies
Limited to 499 copies, this new album from Jarl, a side-project of Erik Jarl, mainly known for its presence in the duo IRM, enfant terrible of the Swedish power-electronics scene, goes further into the concepts introduced with the album Sealed Void (on Force Of Nature – see in this catalogue) and the album Out Of Balance (on Malignant). That is to say that once again, we are in presence of isolationist atmospheric drifts, but interlaced this time with more ethereal or transcendental passages. Overall, the record is based on static or repetitive sonic patterns which fall somewhere between dark-ambient and noise (but fear not, a rather moderated bruitism). The album is mastered by Peter Anderson. A very zen release. Excellent.

-JOE COLLEY-
Hive mini-CD
f e r n s Recordings
‘’I grew up with the sound of bees, my father was an amateur beekeeper. It is an amazingly complex but also simple sound, full of warmth, comfort, but also menace-the drone of many tiny legs and wings. My father's hives were wiped out by a virus before I could make a recording, but I found someone willing to let me visit them in the hills of California. I made recordings from the outside and inside, embedding microphones among the active bees and positioning them at the entrances to the hives. It took me some years to arrive at an idea of how to use this material in a respectful way. The sound itself is so beautiful in it's monotony. I could listen to it forever. But i took it as a challenge to examine my relationship to this sound, to view it from several angles including raw unprocessed recordings as well as playback through cymbals and analog synthesizer. I hope somehow it shows my perception of the overlap between our current electronic reality and one of the most elemental sounds on earth.’’ (joe colley )

The track in question has a structure and a construction that are rather simple, but listening to this record is a soothing and nice experience. Limited to 75 copies (!). -KENJI SIRATORI-
Humanexit CDR
T'an! Kaven!! Ash!!!
In experimental and post-industrial/noise circles, very few people haven’t heard the name of KENJI SIRATORI yet. This very prolific Japanese cyberpunk writer has already collaborated with an impressive number of musicians with a unique kind of spoken word, his texts being among the most groundbreaking of the moment. Here we have a noise mantra composed by the artist himself. All words and noises are by him, and the sleeve has drawings by Michael Zolotov (Kadaver). I guess this is a perfect introduction to the universe of Siratori, because besides his sublime and hallucinatory sentence/idea constructions, you get his aural visions as a bonus. The more I listen to it, the more I dig it. I am confident that fans of power-electronics or japnoise easily have something to sink their teeth into here!
